Health Resolution 2018

January 5, 2018

While the New Year brings with it the promise of fresh starts and new beginnings, it is also a wonderful opportunity to commit to good health and well-being.

While creating healthy resolutions is one thing, sticking to them beyond the month of January is another story altogether. Yet, with high hopes of a better tomorrow, we give you advices on health to make your year ahead a truly healthy and happy one.

These include:

Mindful eating

Isn’t it a common sight to gobble what’s on the plate while the eyes are glued to the television set, laptop screen or the phone? But research has proved that eating while distracted leads to overeating. In the New Year, resolve to slow down and pay.

Challenge Yourself to fitness

For starters, challenge yourself to a fitness regime in the New Year. Figure out the motivation you need to choose from the different fitness options, some of which will not even burn a hole in the pocket. You can choose from options like regular walks, to practicing yoga, or joining a fitness class. Sports enthusiasts should take up a sport of their choice and do it regularly. Whether your goal is to lose weight, lower cholesterol or have more energy to play with young ones, take charge of your fitness and work on your daily regime.

As always, talk with your doctor before beginning your journey to a healthier you. Attention to what gets into your plate and into your mouth. When you eat mindfully, it’s easier to notice when you feel full and what kind of nutrition you are getting out of your food.

Take time to chill

Our professional life is filled with meetings and activities that leaves us with little time for ourselves. Forget the social life, even our sleep is sacrificed at the altar of work many a times. Stop living by the clock. Take a break, draw the curtains, dim the lights and get quality sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to several health disorders and ruin your health in the long run. So, sleep it over should be your mantra.

Keep a positive attitude

Harbouring negativity can rob you off your peace of mind and reflect on your health. It is pertinent to take some time at the beginning or end of the day to reflect on what you’re grateful for. This can help to create a bubble of gratitude which will keep you happy and content mentally. This state of mind will reflect on the overall health and shift your focus and minimize the distorting influence of stress. Reminding ourselves of the small, everyday positive aspects of our lives helps to develop a sense of balance and perspective that can enhance well-being.

A Walk a day keeps illness away

Health experts recommend 30 minutes of brisk walking or some form of exercise. If you’ve got a busy schedule, take three 10-minute walks throughout your day. Keeping your body in good shape requires it to be free of inactivity. It is essential that your blood circulation gets the needed exercise to perform all the bodily functions properly.

Use the stairs

Making small, daily changes such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator may seem minor, but they can make a big difference for your heart in the long run. Studies have shown that individuals who are physically active are much less likely to develop cardiovascular disease.
